Deck Building & Repair in Emmet & Charlevoix County
A good deck adds living space for those Northern Michigan summers. I build decks that are solid underneath, safe to use, and good-looking for years.
How I approach it
The part of a deck you don't see matters most: footings set below the frost line, a properly attached ledger, and the right hardware and fasteners. That's what keeps a deck safe and keeps it from shifting through freeze-and-thaw cycles.
On top, you can choose pressure-treated wood, cedar, or composite decking, each with its own look, cost, and upkeep. I'll help you weigh the options and design something that fits your home and how you'll use it.

Common questions
Should I go with wood or composite?
Wood costs less up front but needs regular sealing or staining. Composite costs more but needs much less upkeep. It mostly comes down to budget and how much maintenance you want to do.
Can you replace the boards on my existing deck?
Often, yes, if the framing underneath is still sound. I'll inspect it first and let you know whether resurfacing makes sense or a rebuild is the safer choice.
Do I need a permit for a deck?
Many new decks and rebuilds do. I'll let you know what's required for your project and location.
